In Florida, a registered agent is a business or individual designated to receive service of process when a business entity is a party in a legal action such as a lawsuit, summons, subpoena or possesses relevant records. In some cases in Florida the function is also referred to as a Florida resident agent or Florida statutory agent, however most in Florida call this function "Registered Agent." The Florida Registered agent for a Florida business entity can be an designated individual or more often a third party such as a qualified service company such as A. C. E., Inc. Failure to properly maintain a Florida registered agent office can affect a company negatively and cause legal problems.

A Florida Registered Agent acts on a company's behalf in their state of incorporation or qualification. The Florida Registered Agent’s primary duties include: providing an office address, receiving Service of Process, and acting as a local mailing contact with the Secretary of State and other regulatory agencies. The Registered Agent also forwards tax notices, state reports and other communications, when applicable.

Corporate laws in Florida state require a Registered Agent and a Registered office. Florida allow an officer, director or the company itself, to act as the Registered Agent but if you do not have an office in Florida, you will still need an address to use for the company’s address in Florida.
